The
gallery (blue on the map) has frescoes detached from churches and
buildings in the area. |
|
 |
The first panel at the upper left is of the Madonna
and Child, the second (center) is an Enthroned Madonna and Child with St.
Joseph and another Saint, the third is an Enthroned Madonna and Child
with Worshippers. The first two were painted by Francesco Sparapane in
1528, the third by a local painter. |
|
 |
Madonna of the Oak (done before 1526 by a local
follower of Perugino; the donor, Pierdomenico “Pozzo” da Paganelli, can
be seen in the lower left). |

A. These frescoes
come from the Church of the Madonna della Quercia in Valcaldara di Norcia.

Francesco Sparapane (1528).

In the gallery
there is also:
B. the mural
triptych of the Madonna and Child, Madonna of Loreto and St. Sebastian. It was
found in Savelli di Norcia, outside the Berardi house, from which it was
detached after the 1979 earthquake. It can be attributed to Antonio Sparapane
and dated to the 1470s.

In the first room of the
museum one can see:
|
 |
A. Tabernacolo
the carved and
gilded wooden tabernacle. In Norcia, similar works were created in particular in
the workshop of Antonio and Francesco Marinucci, cabinetmakers and architects (second
half of the 16th cent.).
|
|
 |
B. Bossolo del Magistrato
(seconda metà del XV sec.)
Magistrate’s
Ballot Box (second half of the 15th cent.) Made from carved and inlaid wood (two
Norcia coats of arms), the inside of the cover has a tempera painting of Saints
Benedict and Scholastica (attributable to one of the Sparapane working in the
early 16th cent.). It was used for electing the highest communal officials. The
“pellets” of wax containing the “slips” of the candidates were placed in the
drawers inside. In order to prevent tampering the box was kept in the sacrarium
of a church, and it had four different locks. The names of three of the four
keepers of the keys are inscribed on the front and on the left side of the box:
Co(mmun)ità, S. Ben(edetto), S. Fran(cesc)o.
